October is best known for Halloween, but in Galveston, it also brings an array of other fun events:
Harvest Moon Regatta (October 5)
This year, the Harvest Moon Regatta both starts and finishes in Galveston, and will feature hundreds of boats that set sail in the Gulf of Mexico. The regatta began from humble beginnings in 1987 with only seventeen yachts, and now more than 260 will start the race at 25th and Seawall. On race day, the total distance (between 100 and 170 miles) will be determined. The awards ceremony will take place on October 7th as will the post-race party at LYC.
ArtWalk (October 14)
For more than twenty-five years, the Galveston Art Center has hosted ArtWalk throughout the year about every six to eight weeks. Mainly held in the heart of the Strand District, it takes place in commercial art galleries, restaurants, and non-profit art spaces. The event attracts as many as three thousand visitors and strives to promote the visual arts while offering different places to learn about the various mediums.
ARToberFEST (October 21-22)
ARToberFEST has been a local favorite for the last twenty years, and it’s Galveston’s biggest art event. Sponsored by the Grand 1894 Opera House, it features more than 125 artists from across the United States whose works include paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Visitors can take a break from shopping to enjoy a delicious meal or a refreshing beverage.
