If you enjoy shrimp, beer, and live music, don’t miss the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival.
It takes place September 29th and 30th, and highlights include:
5K Shrimp Scamper – Put on your walking or running shoes and make your way through the scenic course. It starts and ends on the beach, and the top three men and women’s finishers will win an award.
Gumbo Stroll – During the event, teams will fill the Strand District to dish out samples of their delicious gumbo. To enjoy the offerings, visitors will need to purchase a Gumbo-Tasting Cup which allows for unlimited samples. Cook teams include Bayou Boozers, Pot Belly Cookers, and Coastal Sands, and visitors can vote for Best Team Showmanship.
Strand Merchant Walkabout – The Strand Merchant Walkabout takes place at noon on September 30th, and it features the district’s most popular shops. Those who visit all of the stores listed on the walkabout card and get stamps from each one can win a prize. Participating merchants include the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Cariloha Bamboo, and Vintage Crown Boutique.
Lil’ Shrimp’s Parade – Line the Strand to watch as horses, bands, floats, and more make their way down the street. It starts at 3:00 p.m. on the 30th and it’s best to get there early as it often draws a crowd.
