Slow-cooked with a tangy sauce, several local restaurants prepare brisket to perfection.
They also offer from-scratch sides and refreshing beverages for a meal you won’t soon forget. When you’re ready to order, the eateries offering pickup or delivery near our apartments in Galveston include:
In 1978, Israel and Connie Ochoa purchased Pennie’s Meat Market. She began making tamales, while Israel perfected his famous barbacoa recipe. The restaurant quickly became a Galveston staple among locals and visitors alike. It closed after Hurricane Ike and reopened in 2017 with a twist. Now called Pennie’s Tex-Mex, the restaurant features Hill Country-style barbecue and the original recipes from the market. The pitmasters cover the brisket with a secret rub and slice the meat to order. Sides include green beans and potato salad, and the restaurant offers pickup Thursday through Sunday.
Leo’s Cajun Corner
Both a meat market and a restaurant, Leo’s Cajun Corner, brings a taste of Louisiana to Texas. Locals call the restaurant a “gem.” They rate it 4.5-stars on Yelp for the authentic offerings, reasonable prices, and fast, friendly service. For dinner, sample the brisket sandwich. It’s best enjoyed with the potato salad and banana pudding and is available for GrubHub delivery.
Texas Pit Stop BBQ
When Arnold Garza decided to share his award-winning barbecue, Texas Pit Stop BBQ was born. His competition team has won numerous awards, including the Triple Crown trophy for the best overall barbecue in Galveston County. The dishes feature some of the tastiest sauce in town. They’re slow-cooked for hours and the brisket sandwich pairs well with the green beans and coleslaw—order online for delivery or curbside pickup.
