Nestled in Austin is a fascinating destination that interprets “the continually unfolding story of Texas.”

We’re talking about the Bullock Texas State History Museum, and it offers a better understanding of the people who came before us. The museum provides online fun so that you can explore Texas history from home. Some of what you can discover from our apartments in Galveston includes:

Journey Into Big Bend

Originally on view in 2016, Journey Into Big Bend is now a virtual exhibit connecting people to one of Texas’ most popular state parks. Rich in history, Big Bend features waterfalls, canyons, and unique rock formations that draw visitors from around the world. The land is a valued ecosystem and is also home to an array of wildlife. Journey into Big Bend features the photographs submitted to the Big Bend National Park Photography Competition. Images include colorful flowers, the Rio Grande, and stunning starry night skies.

Texas History Galleries

With 700 artifacts, Texas History Galleries features exhibitions highlighting the state’s history unlike ever before. In the Becoming Texas Gallery, you’ll enjoy an adventure spanning 16,000 years. It showcases the men and women who established vast trade networks, what life was like on the frontier, and so much more. Artifacts on display include Projectile PointThe Ship La Belle, and Mission Gate.

Texas Oil and Gas

Texas Oil and Gas showcases how the state’s oil and gas industry impacts the world. The first major oil strike at Spindletop happened in 1901. Today, nearly forty percent of the country’s oil comes from the Lone Star State, and approximately 4.1 million barrels of oil are produced daily. Artifacts on view include a portable mud tester and a fur-trimmed opera coat.

After you explore Texas history from home, enjoy the outdoors at Seawall Urban Park. Spanning ten miles along the Gulf of Mexico, it features a path perfect for biking, jogging, or walking.
